Sunday Worship
Have you ever been invited to “come as you are?” At First Parish, we want you to come as you are, but we also invite your openness to transformation -- musically, spiritually, and intellectually.
Our Sunday morning celebration draws upon the richness of our earth-centered, Jewish, Liberal Christian, Transcendentalist, and ethical Humanist roots.
First Parish is blessed with two beautiful spaces for worship. From September through June, services are held at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary, home to our historic stained glass. Most weeks all ages attend part of the service before children and their teachers leave for Religious Exploration classes. Summer services begin at 10 a.m. in the adjacent and brightly sunlit Lyon Chapel. No matter the season or belief, our worship is open to all spiritual seekers and willing participants in our community.
Music is central to worship. Our accomplished adult choir, youth and children’s choirs, instrumentalists, and vocal soloists offer music from traditional to contemporary, always relevant to the day’s worship theme.
You will be challenged, affirmed, and enlightened by our Co-Ministers, the Rev. Martha Niebanck and the Rev. Jim Sherblom. Their sermons are deeply theological, intellectual, and inspiringly human. Readings are topical. Services invite congregational participation. And always there is time and space for meditation and reflection.
Child care in the nursery is provided for children under three. Hearing devices and large-print bulletins with hymns are available. Our ushers and greeters will welcome and assist you.
Afterwards, all are invited to Hospitality for coffee, a snack, and conversation.
See our Worship Schedule for information about upcoming services.
Summer Schedule
Summer Services are Sundays at 10 a.m. in Lyon Chapel. Our summer schedule starts in late June and runs through August (no services Labor Day weekend). Summer services are often led by members of our congregation in collaboration with the Worship Committee. They are informal and small, feature music, and provide a wonderful opportunity to meet and talk with members of First Parish.
