Worship

Welcome! First Parish in Brookline is a caring community of people who strive to create a more loving and just world. We seek to make a place for all ages to experience and celebrate community, to teach and learn from each other in an environment guided by respect and love, and to actively work for social justice. Worship draws from many faith traditions and is collaboratively created by First Parish staff and lay leaders. We are united by a life-giving, liberatory theology, as well as a belief that the human spirit needs tending. Whoever you are, wherever you come from, you are welcome here.

At First Parish, we invite your openness to transformation of the heart, mind, and spirit. Sunday morning worship varies widely from week to week, drawing from sources as diverse as poetry, science, scriptures, and personal experience. from our living tradition and Buddhist, Earth-Centered, Humanist, Jewish, and Liberal Christian faith traditions. Music in all its forms is absolutely central to our worship.

No matter the season or belief, our worship is open to all spiritual seekers and willing participants in our community. Our goal is to create meaningful worship that challenges, affirms, and enlightens those who gather here. Sermons explore a wide variety of spiritual topics and are inspiringly human. Services invite congregational participation, and always there is time and space for meditation and reflection.

Vespers @ First Parish Sanctuary and on Zoom
Apr 14 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Vespers continues to meet on the second Sunday of each month at 7:00 pm.

For ages, people have gathered at the quiet closing of a day, to sit and reflect together in community, as one day, one week, one month ends, ritually marking a boundary before the next begins. Once again, in this spirit, a small lay-led group will offer a monthly Vespers service on the second Sunday evening of each month, from now through May. Join us, if this appeals to you, for a simple moment of quiet contemplation and healing, with music, readings, candles of remembrance, guided meditation, silence and conversation about that month’s theme.

You may also join by Zoom if you prefer. Please contact Anne Copeland with questions and for the Zoom link.
