Directions to First Parish in Brookline

Less than four miles from downtown Boston, First Parish is located at the intersection of Walnut and Warren Streets, one block south of Route 9 and just east of the Brookline Reservoir. Limited parking is available in the churchyard in front of the Sanctuary and in the lower parking area on Walnut Street. Additional parking along Walnut Street and Warren Street.

By Public Transportation (T)

First Parish is one-half mile from the Brookline Hills stop on the D-Riverside branch of the Green Line. Leaving the Brookline Hills stop, turn right and walk up the short incline to Cypress Street. Turn right at Cypress, cross Route 9 (Boylston Street) and proceed two short blocks to Walnut Street. Turn right on Walnut and walk up the hill approximately a quarter mile. The First Parish complex is on the left, as you approach the top of the hill.

Driving Directions

From Downtown Boston/the South End, Cambridge, the Mass Pike, I-95/Rte 128, Jamaica Plain, and Public Transportation

From Jamaica Plain

Get on Perkins Street going towards Jamaica Pond and Brookline. After crossing the Jamaicaway, continue one block and turn right at the light. Two-thirds of the way around the rotary, go right on Chestnut Street. At second stop sign, turn left onto Walnut Street. The First Parish complex will be on the left as you approach the top of the hill.

From Downtown Boston/South End

From the Boston Public Garden/Back Bay, take Arlington Street south toward Boylston Street. Turn right onto St. James Avenue and continue west. At the intersection with Dartmouth Street (Copley Place/Boston Public Library), take the left “fork” and proceed out Huntington Avenue. Continue on Huntington Avenue (Route 9) for 2.5 miles, past the Museum of Fine Arts and Brookline Village. Huntington Avenue becomes Boylston Street (Route 9).

From Route 9, turn left onto Cypress Street (traffic light, Mobil station on right). The next light is Walnut Street; turn right. Proceed up the hill about a quarter of a mile. The First Parish complex is on the left as you approach the top of the hill.

Alternatively, you can continue on Route 9 past Cypress Street to the next light at Warren Street. Turn left and go one block to the large landscaped, triangular intersection. First Parish is on the opposite side of the intersection.

From Cambridge (North)

From Fresh Pond Parkway, take the Eliot Bridge over the Charles River. Take Soldiers Field Road east. Exit right for Harvard Square/Cambridge. At the light turn right onto North Harvard Street. OR, from Memorial Drive, take the Larz Anderson Bridge over the Charles, which becomes North Harvard Street. OR, from Central Square, take the Western Avenue Bridge and continue on Western Avenue to North Harvard Street. Turn left onto North Harvard Street, and continue as described below.

Continue on North Harvard Street till it ends at Cambridge Street. Turn right onto Cambridge Street. Go over the Mass Pike and, at the next light, turn left onto Harvard Avenue (becomes Harvard Street).

Continue on Harvard for 1.6 miles, through Coolidge Corner to School Street (Walgreens on left). Turn right onto School Street. School Street becomes Cypress Street. Continue on Cypress across Route 9 (Boylston Street) two blocks to the traffic light at Walnut Street. Turn right onto Walnut Street and proceed up the hill a quarter mile. The First Parish complex is on the left, as you approach the top of the hill.

From the Mass Pike (I-90)

Take the Mass Pike east to Exit 14 (I-95/Route 128). Stay to the right at the tollbooths. Take the right-hand exit (Cape Cod/South Shore) to I-95/Rte. 128 South. Go two miles and take Exit 20A (Route 9 East), headed toward Boston/Brookline. Proceed as described below.

From I-95/Route 128 North or South

Take I-95/Route 128 to Exit 20A (Route 9 East), headed toward Boston/Brookline. Go 5.25 miles, passing The Atrium Mall on your right, the Chestnut Hill Mall on your left, and the Brookline Reservoir on the right. At the next light, turn right onto Warren Street. Go one block to the large landscaped, triangular intersection. First Parish on the opposite side of the intersection.
