Building Bridges Visit to Center Communities

Last Saturday, our Building Bridges RE Class participated in the Saturday Shabbat Service at Center Communities of Brookline, led by Rabbi Jim Morgan. This was the culmination of our unit of study on Judaism.

From Rabbi Jim:

“Thank you so much for joining us! The residents adored having you along with Harper and Peter. It was a great opportunity to review the meaning of many components of the service that we often take for granted, and it is just such a treat to have young people among us.”

The more formal part of the two hour service ended with a Kiddush, blessing and sharing of the challah bread and grape juice, followed by a lovely lunch and continuing discussion.

During our Sunday “debrief” RE Class, Harper said she thought the discussion portion of the service was most interesting and different from our UU Sunday Worship format. Peter enjoyed the singing and seeing the reading from the Torah.

You can also see currently in Lyon Chapel, our “Timeline of Faiths” project, mapping out the last, oh, 6000 years or so of spiritual exploration and evolution!

Next up, the twin moments of Christmas and Solstice – just why do they happen at the same time of year after all?! Inquiring minds want to know!

B’shalom,
Nathan (Building Bridges RE Teacher and REC Member)
