New members of First Parish in Brookline celebrating signing the membership book in 2025
What does it mean to become a Member?
Hopefully you’ve been enjoying Sunday service and meeting a variety of people during coffee hour. Maybe you joined in a social action gathering, or a workshop, like “Spirit of Life” and feel more and more at home here. If that’s true, we hope you are considering becoming a member.
As a congregation we consider membership a mutual compact or covenant of respect and support. In this covenant, we acknowledge our shared values and commitment to living in community in accordance with the Unitarian Universalist principles. Once you gain an understanding of how we aspire to live those principles and you find that you want to be a part of this community, becoming a member is simple. All you need to do is sign our membership book and make a recorded donation. The Minister, Parish Board chair, the Welcoming and Membership Committee would be delighted to support you in this endeavor.
Share Your Time & Talent
As in any collaborative community, we depend on one another to share, as we are willing and able. It’s no surprise that gifts of time, treasure, and talent are valued. We welcome newcomers and new members to have conversations with members about how you might best enrich our community and, in turn, be enriched by it.
Deepen Your Commitment
As an active member, meaning that you have signed the membership book and made an annual financial pledge, you will be able to vote at congregational meetings to help shape the future mission and vision of this congregation. As a member there will be opportunities for leadership roles as you deepen your commitment with us.
