Because Our Faith Demands It
Members of FPB’s Climate Justice Action Committee honor and act on our church’s mission statement, which includes that we “care for our living Earth,” and the Unitarian Universalist belief that we have “respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.”
Given the global climate crisis unfolding around us, it is critically important that our church community work to reduce our carbon footprint and educate our community on steps that we can take individually and collectively to address this extraordinary concern.
Recent activities include…

Advocacy and support
Active support of Mothers Out Front, Brookline Chapter; state and local climate action initiatives such as the recent Brookline plastics reduction by-law proposals.
Religious Exploration
Support teachers with programming to help children and youth develop their knowledge and appreciation of the natural world around them, and their commitment to climate justice action.

Celebrations
Honor Earth Day in a Sunday service in April to respect and love our Earth, including committee members sharing personal reflections on “renewal and preparation for climate action work”.
Earth Defenders
Honor, remember, and raise awareness of the 200+ “Earth Defenders”, men and women who have lost their lives for defending their communities’ natural resources against corrupt governments and businesses.

Sustainability & Decarbonization
Support FPB’s composting efforts; “home electrification” workshop for members and friends; and advocated to move our winter services from the Sanctuary to Lyon Chapel, which achieved an estimated 25% reduction in fuel consumption.
