Positions: Tenor Section Leader/Soloist
Alto Section Leader/Soloist
Location: First Parish in Brookline, Unitarian Universalist
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 PM and Sundays, 9:30 – 10:30 AM
Services: Sundays, 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM (September thru June)
Occasional holiday and special services throughout the year
Stipend: $200 per week
Hours: About 4-5 hours/week
Start Date: September 9, 2026
Job Responsibilities: Reporting to the Music Director, this quartet member is expected to arrive for weekly rehearsals and Worship Services on time, fully prepared and familiar with all music, e.g., anthems, solos, duets, trios, quartets and solos within a particular anthem. The Section Leader will lead section rehearsals as needed and offer suggestions to support the musicianship of volunteer adult choir members. This professional will be expected to sing at Christmas Eve and Easter services, and to negotiate any release time well in advance with the Music Director. As a professional church musician, this individual must respect the guiding principles of Unitarian Universalism through their musical involvement in this spiritual community. Participation in additional musical events will be coordinated with the Music Director and Minister.
Skills (required): Applied performance experience, especially with a concentration in voice or choral music education. Some experience singing in amateur or semi-professional choruses, with sight reading skills sufficient to quickly lead amateurs in a varied repertoire of hymns, anthems, and service music. This repertoire includes traditional classical pieces, African-American spirituals, and contemporary music from diverse traditions, e.g., jazz, classical, folk, world music, etc. Position also requires effectiveness in working in a team-centered, collaborative setting.
Skills (preferred): Bachelor’s degree, especially with a concentration in vocal or choral music education; prior work experience as a church musician, e.g., as a Section Leader or Soloist.
